Tuesday, March 2; Vermicomposting: Worms with an
Appetite

Jen Cristofoletti with York County Solid Waste Authority will introduce
participants to “red wigglers.” These special worms transform food scraps
into compost. During this hands-on program, individuals will be able to make
a worm farm for use at home. NF, please

Park Naturalist Patti Chamberlin will lead a search along the shores of Lake
Williams and Lake Redman for waterfowl during spring migration. Groups will
carpool to different viewing areas around these lakes. Bring binoculars, a
spotting scope, and field guides, and dress for the weather. Lending

Covered Dish

Bring a covered dish and enjoy an evening talking about old mills with the
Friends of Wallace Cross Mill. After supper, a program will be presented

Come to the observatory and see planets, the Moon, galaxies and nebulae and
learn some interesting facts about each object. Please bring a blanket or
chair if you desire. If you need help with your telescope, bring it along
and our experts will help you out. Also, members of the York County
Astronomical Society can advise you what type of telescope to purchase.

Park

Go back in time with Jeri Jones, Parks Program Coordinator, and learn about
one of the 19th century’s leading industries in York County. Find out how
miners removed and shipped ore and see how this history has been preserved
today. Learn about the park’s efforts to conserve the bats living in some
mineshafts. Meet at the parking lot on Hoff Rd. for a two-mile hike with
steep terrain. Please wear proper hiking attire.

Join the Parks and York County Astronomical Society as they gather on this
vista to view the heavens during the first night of spring. Various
telescopes and binoculars will be set up to view celestial objects. Event

Come and explore the park at night. Look and listen for the different
creatures that work the night shift. Dress for the weather, bring a
flashlight, and wear sturdy shoes. Appropriate for ages 8 and up.

Sunday, March 28; Natural Egg Dipping
Nixon Park, 1–2 p.m. & 3–4 p.m.
Enjoy the art of dyeing Easter eggs naturally using onionskins, blueberries,
coffee, etc. with Park naturalist Patti Chamberlin. Bring your own blown or
hardboiled eggs and be sure to wear old clothes. Children 16 and under must
be accompanied by an adult at all times. $3 fee
