Sunday, April 1; April Fool’s Hike
Nixon Park, 2:30–4pm

Truth or Tale? Join naturalist Kelsey Frey for a spring hike and trail discussion. Which of the tales she tells are facts and which are fiction? You may learn some intriguing facts, but don’t be fooled. This is a 1-mile hike with some uphill and downhill slopes. NF, NR.

Friday, April 6; Natural Egg Dyeing
Nixon Park, 9:30–11:30am

Enjoy the art of dyeing Easter eggs naturally using onion skins, blueberries, coffee, etc. with park volunteer Jodi Sulpizio. Bring your own blown or hardboiled eggs and be sure to wear old clothes. Children under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.  $2 per person, register at 428-1961.

Tuesday, April 10; Sunset Scramble Bike Ride
Rail Trail Park, Brillhart Station Parking Area, 6:30pm

Join in on the fun as riders travel 13–15 miles round trip on the Rail Trail. Enjoy the fresh air and see some of the area’s finest scenery. The group determines the pace. Each rider must have a light and water. Helmets are recommended. Bring money for a snack if you like. NF, NR.

Naturalist and salamander enthusiast Gretchen Young will lead this indoor/outdoor program to learn about these common amphibians that are right under your feet. $3 fee per person, register at 428-1961.

Nixon Park, 12noon–4pm

Celebrate Earth Day by making healthier choices for the earth and for you. Practice yoga on the lawn while listening to the rejuvenating stream, enjoy a snack from locally-grown ingredients, and do a family scavenger hunt on the trails. NF, NR.


Sunday, April 22; Outdoor Family Yoga for All
Nixon Park, 12noon–1pm

Enjoy a family yoga class open to all, hosted by teachers of the Yoga Home in York. Experience the health and relaxation benefits of yoga. Yoga mats will be available or bring your own. NF, register at 428-1961.


Sunday, April 22; Pest to Pesto, Garlic Mustard Pull and Tasting
Nixon Park, 1–4pm

Celebrate Earth Day by joining Park Naturalist Kelsey Frey for a short orientation to the life and troubles of the invasive weed, garlic mustard, and its most common partners in crime. Then hit the trails in teams or individually to pull this pest before it takes over. Return to the Nature Center from 3–4pm to taste some culinary creations made using this tasty pest. Saturday, April 28; Arbor Day Tree Planting Program
Kain Park, Lake Williams Activity Area, 10am–2pm

Saturday, April 28; Astronomy Day and Star Watch
Rudy Park Observatory, 1–5pm & 7–9pm

Learn about solar and radio telescopes, view the sun safely, and learn about the sun and planets. Activities for adults and children during the afternoon, then return in the evening for a Public Star Watch. The daytime portion will be held rain or shine. Do you or your children love to play outside? Come and learn how to turn your yard into an outdoor haven for kids of all ages. Parks Naturalist Amber Carothers will share the importance of unstructured outdoor play for children while sharing inexpensive ways to create a nature playscape at home. NF, NR.
